Burlington Town Council meets
Comet staff report

Burlington Town Council agreed at last Wednesday's meeting to table signing a new four-year agreement to participate in the Carroll County Economic Development Corp. (CCEDC) so that the new council can make that decision. CCEDC executive director Daryl Smith presented the contract and explained the revisions.

President Bob Davis thanked Councilman Wayne Swaim for his knowledge about the "slow- children playing" signs requested at last month's meeting for Jackson Street. The Indiana Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices speaks against posting these signs that can be interpreted as the town endorsing child's play in or near streets, creating liability for the town.

Councilman-elect Stan Moore inquired about the status of the new town map preparation. Davis said that Lawrence Lambert is continuing to work on the map. Swaim added that the map had not been updated since 1967.

Steve Barnard inquired about the validity of the snow removal contract. Davis and Swaim both agreed that wording in the current contract stated services were ongoing until revised by Barnard or the town.

Councilman-elect Ted Huffer asked about leaf collection response. Public Works Commissioner Les Johnson said that it is going well. Davis added that the town is receiving positive verbal feedback.

Clerk-Treasurer Tammy Dyer said that two years of labor costs, plus replacement parts, were also part of the grant that funded the leaf vac.

Davis announced that Carroll County Historical Society membership applications are available in the town hall should anyone in the community desire to support Carroll County's efforts to maintain the museum.

The next meeting will be Dec. 12 at 7 p.m. in the town hall.
