Lots to do in Delphi parade day Delphi Lions Club is busy making plans for its annual Christmas parade to be held Dec. 1 at 1 p.m. Line-up will begin at noon in front of Monroe St. gym and float judging will start there at 12:30. The route will be the same as in the past. The theme of this year's event is "A Family Christmas." Prizes will be awarded for best float, best small float, best marching group and best decorated vehicle based on the theme. Clubs, sororities, youth groups, scouts, churches, schools and small towns surrounding Delphi are planning to take part in the 15th annual event. Those who wish to participate still have time to register and prepare. Call Ed Sholty at (765) 564-3514 for information or simply arrive for parade line-up. In the interest of safety, participants are asked not to throw candy from the floats. Walk along the path and distribute goodies instead. Santa Claus will appear on his float in the parade. Lions asked that no other Santas be present so as not to confuse the children. Parade day events Carroll County Health Clinic will offer flu shots in the courthouse from 8:30 to 10 the morning of the parade. For a small fee, individuals 18 or older are eligible to re- ceive the vaccination. Delphi Chamber of Commerce Festival of Trees will be on display in the courthouse beginning Nov. 28. Those who wish to sponsor and decorate a tree should plan to set up their displays in the courthouse rotunda Nov. 26 and 27 between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. Members of the public can vote for their favorite trees during regular courthouse hours from Nov. 28 until Dec. 1, the day of the Christmas parade. Peoples' Choice winners will be announced during the parade. Trees may remain on display through Christmas, but should be removed by Dec. 28 at noon. There is no charge to set up a tree or to vote. Call Penny at (765) 564-6045 for information. The Salvation Army's Angel Tree will be on display in the courthouse rotunda starting Nov. 30. Those who wish to do so can pick a card bearing the name of a child in need from the tree, purchase the listed gift and return it as directed. The Salvation Army is accepting names for the tree and donations to support the program. Call Kim Widner at (765) 564-6466 for information. The Lions will sponsor a breakfast at Stone Barn from 7 to 10 a.m. Delphi merchants will host open houses. Visit the city's stores to see special deals. Tri Kappa will sponsor visits with Santa and Small Shoppers Spending Spree at the courthouse from 10:30 to 12:30. St. Matthew's Lutheran Church, at the intersection of Armory Rd. and CR200N. on the south side of Delphi, will host a bazaar from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. the day of the parade. A variety of crafts and vendors will be featured. Call Callie Schimmel at (765) 430-1300 for information. The American Cancer Society will have its Love Lights a Tree display in the courthouse. Those who donate to the cancer society will be able to place the ribbons on the tree the morning of the parade, or may request the organization do so for them. A donation is not required for those who wish to place a ribbon on the tree. Each of the 33 colors of ribbons represents a different form of cancer. Those who donate or request a ribbon can choose the color which represents the type of cancer they are remembering. Information should include the name of the survivor or victim, the name of the person or persons giving the memorial and also the type of cancer involved.
