Moore was returning after being deployed for 15 months. While he was in Iraq, he received his promotion to his present rank of sergeant. Moore told his family that of the three tours he has served, this last one was the hardest. There were 400 soldiers deployed with his unit. As the commander said during the welcome home ceremony, "54 commandos paid the ultimate sacrifice." Of those 54, Moore said that some were his friends, making it harder this time. Now that Moore is back in the States, he plans to spend time with his wife, the former Jessica Ruiz, and children before he redeploys in 18 months. He has missed the birth of both His daughter and his son and many of their "firsts." Daughter, Skye, is now four, and son, Sean, is one. A 1999 graduate of Carroll Jr.-Sr. High School, Moore joined the U.S. Army in June 2001. He completed boot camp at Fort Sill, Okla., and AIT training at Fort Bliss, Texas. He was then assigned to Germany, where he was stationed until June 2006. He is currently stationed at Fort Drum, N.Y. Moore said he is "very proud to have served his country" and has re-enlisted for six more years. Moore is the son of James and Cristina Moore of Flora and Laura and Wayne Killian of Lafayette. |
