Marie A. Turner
Born Feb. 7, 1919, in Logansport, she was the daughter of Charles Carl and Anna Marie Daviet Fettig. She attended St. Joseph Catholic School and graduated in 1938 from Logansport High School. On Jan. 9, 1943, she married John N. Bechtol, who preceded her in death in 1978. On Sept. 26, 1987, she married her 1938 classmate, Donald Turner. He preceded her in death in 2004. During World War II she worked at the Military Crystal Lab in Oakland, Calif. She worked 22 years as an inspector at RBM before retiring in 1961. Mrs. Turner was a lifetime member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church, now All Saints Parish. At the age of 85, she joined the Anoka United Methodist Quilting Club and also attended church at Anoka. She was a member of the Daughters of Isabella. She also belonged to the Pioneer Auto Club and had restored the interior of a 1930 Model A Ford. She attended several fly-ins with her husband, Don, who was a private pilot and Logansport Aviation commissioner. Marie had many interests, including antiques, photography, flying, gardening, crocheting and sewing. She was also a devoted Chicago Cubs fan. She loved to cook, especially when preparing family dinners and making her specialities - fudge and creme puffs. Surviving are one daughter, Barbara Flory (husband Richard A.) of Delphi; one son, James Michael Bechtol (wife Dianna) of Logansport; two stepsons, Donald R. Turner and Timothy Turner, both of South Bend; one sister, Catherine Henry of North Judson; three grandchildren, Elizabeth Marie Burdsall (husband John Mark) of Sharpsville, Heather Kay Burns (husband Brian) of Monticello and John Emerson Kiste of Winamac; eight stepgrandchildren, Jeffrey Flory (wife Tina) of Albion, Christopher Flory of Manassas, Va., Greg Myers and Michael Myers, both of Marion, Ohio, and Gretchen Jennings, Shawn Turner, Shannon Magezi and Ashley Turner, all of South Bend; two greatgrandchildren, Nathaniel William Burns and Taylor Nicole Burns, both of Monticello; nine step-greatgrandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. Mrs. Turner was preceded in death by a brother, Joseph Fettig. A Daughters of Isabella service was held Tuesday at Fisher Funeral Chapel in Logansport. Services will be held at the chapel today, Wednesday, at 10:30 a.m. with Rev. Jim Abbott and Father Jeff Martin officiating. Burial will follow in Ever-Rest Memorial Park Cemetery, Cass County.
