Dorothea M. Ellars
Born Sept. 24, 1931, in Royal Center, she was the daughter of Albert H. and Nellie M. Oatess Strauch. She attended Royal Center School for 10 years and graduated in 1949 from Logansport High School. On Oct. 30, 1949, she married M. Eugene Davis, who preceded her in death. On June 28, 1986, she married Lloyd R. Ellars, who preceded her in death Jan. 30, 2004. Mrs. Ellars retired on Feb. 6, 1987, from Dye Lumber Inc. where she had worked as a bookkeeper. She was a member of the St. James Lutheran Church, the Lutheran Women's Missionary League and the American Association for Lutherans Branch #311. She was a former member of the St. Johns' Lutheran Church in Peru for many years, where she enjoyed singing in the choir and was very active in all church activities. Surviving are a daughter, Linda K Jeffries (husband: Jim) of Delphi; two sons, Michael E. Davis of Sterling, Va., and Randolph S. Davis (wife: Melinda) of Harpers Ferry, W.Va.; four granddaughters, April L. Little (husband: Donny) of Brookston, Joanna Brumbaugh of Elkhart, Lou Taylor of Maryland and Emily Walker of West Virginia; eight grandsons, Paul Jeffries (wife: Nancy) of Brookston, Vince Jeffries (wife: Tammy), Joe Jeffries, James M. Davis (wife: Amy), all of Haymarket, Va., Matthew E. Davis of Midwest City, Okla., Scott Walker of Sterling, Va., and Jarod Ellars and Haleem Randoum; five great-granddaughters, Kayla L. Ervin Little, Jenna Grace Davis, Victoria Diana Davis, Amanda Jeffries and Sydney Seabolt; 10 great-grandsons, Randolph James Davis, Kristin M. Davis, Brandon Jeffries, Tristan Dillan, Donald and Michael Little, Treavor Warden, Scott Walker Jr., James T. Dorr and William Dorr; a sister-in-law, Lois Strauch of New Castle; and several nieces and nephews. Mrs. Ellars was preceded in death by her parents, a son, Donald Davis, a daughter, Sherrie Davis, and two brothers, Waldemar William Strauch (wife: Imogene) and Rudolph Strauch (wives: Roselee and Virginia). Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. on Nov. 15 at Fisher Funeral Chapel. Services will be held at St James Lutheran Church on Nov. 16 at 2 p.m. with visitation at the church one hour prior to services. Burial will be in Ever-Rest Memorial Park, Cass County. Memorial contributions may be made to the St. James Lutheran Church.
