Carroll senior earns Eagle Scout award
Comet staff report

Chris McGrew
Chris McGrew, has been awarded Boy Scout's highest honor. He was named an Eagle Scout at a Court of Honor celebration held Nov, 4 at the 4-H Community Building in Flora.

In order to be considered for an Eagle Scout designation, a Scout must work through the different ranks of Scouting - Tenderfoot, Second Class, First Class, Star, Life and then ultimately, Eagle. In each rank, different skills, and leadership traits are taught. As the last task, the Scout must plan and carry out a service project that betters his community.

McGrew planned, organized, and led a landscaping project at Cutler Presbyterian Church, which included grading, reseeding and drainage. With his efforts and those of volunteers, his project was completed.

At the Court of Honor Mc- Grew's mom, Jody McGrew, received the Mother's Award, and his father, Curtis McGrew, received the Father's Award. They pinned Chris with his Eagle Medal. Don Yerkes a Scout Leader throughout Chris's scouting career, received the mentors' award.

A senior at Carroll Jr.-Sr. High School and a member of the Democrat Township Volunteer Fire Department, McGrew plans to attend college to pursue a business management degree. He also plans to continue with Troop 144 as an Assistant Scoutmaster.

A reception with family and friends followed the ceremony. Dewayne Pirtle gave the benediction.
