Flora renews contract with Carroll County EDC The Town of Flora entered into another four-year agreement with the Carroll County Economic Development Corporation at Monday night's November meeting. CCEDC Executive Director Daryl Smith said the corporation is in its 20th year. He explained a few minor changes to the contract, including the contract would cease to be if the majority of its members pull out, instead of just one as was originally written. Sana Booker, the director of the Carroll County Chamber of Commerce for the past five months, said she has secured 18 new memberships. "I'm learning what it takes to make this county work," she said. "We are here to support the businesses that are here. We need to work together and be very active in promoting this county." After checking with the Department of Natural Resources, the town can remove the sand volleyball court because it will continue to be used for park purposes. The court was originally installed with a grant through the DNR. Final payment will be issued to Milestone Contractors following satisfactory medication of curb complaints on North Center Street. Leaf pickup schedule will be the west side of town in the morning and the east side in the afternoon, unless pickup on the west side is light, then the east side will begin in late morning. Residents are asked to bundle limbs and brush in fourfoot lengths and tie them together when possible for easier pickup. Sludge totaling 95,700 gallons was hauled and land applied to the Maurice Robeson farm Chief Paul Redmon reported the "best Halloween we've ever had. There were no crimes committed." The October report included: 15 arrests/misdemeanors, 3 felony arrests, 14 citations issued, 2 parking citations, 14 warnings issued, 110 calls for service, 5 accidents investigated, and 3 warrants served. A group of firemen recently completed training on seven different tactical rescues and the entire department was updated on CPR. Proposals from five architects are expected to be reviewed by the Dec. 3 Council meeting. The town plan commission approved: Raymon Stephens, storage shed; DK Construction/ Briggs Plumbing, fire protection business renovation; and Larry DeVos, new residence. Christmas decorations are being put up this week but will not be lighted until Thanksgiving. All the wastewater staff recently attended a safety meeting on bucket truck rescue. Greg Barnes and Rob Buttice also attended a training seminar in West Lafayette where they gained continuing education credit. The council approved closing the town office all day on Dec. 24. Town employees have the option of taking the day as a vacation or no-pay day. The town office will be closed Monday for Veteran's Day and again Thanksgiving Day, Nov. 22, and Friday, Nov. 23.T he next council meeting will be Dec. 3 at 6 p .m. |
