Flora Psi Iota Xi

Flora Psi Iota Xi met recently for the fall party and October meeting. Thirty-one members and one honorary retired member attended.

All members were asked to bring a gift (gag/good) in a brown paper bag to the party for an auction. The auction raised $272.

Deanna Herr and Sherry Donoho will represent the chapter at the West Central District meeting on Nov. 3.

Mary Hayes motioned that we pay for Deanna and Sherry's registration for the meeting, Carla Richardson seconded. Motion passes.

The sorority has paid its pledge for Leadership Carroll County. Anyone from the sorority interested in attending should let Herr know. A representative will be chosen at the next meeting.

Cheese ball order forms were distributed. The price was raised to $4.50. Members were reminded that the cheese balls need to be paid for when they are picked up. Orders are to be turned in to Jennifer Spesard or a member of her committee by Nov. 2. Cheese balls will be made Nov. 13-14.

The Santa House has been resided and reroofed. The Boy Scouts are continuing to work in it.

Petitions for new initiate Catherine Brant Butcher was read. Petitions are available from President Herr and should be given to her prior to the November meeting.

The next meeting will be at the Flora First Christian Church, on Nov. 7 with an educational at 6:30 p.m. A presentation on Riley Kids Camp will be given.

Flora Kiwanis Club

Flora Kiwanis Club held its final banquet/meeting Oct. 23 at the First Christian Church in Flora. Community Club members were invited to share the evening.

The final Kiwanian of the Year Award was presented to Miriam Robeson for her work with the sixth grade K Kids as well as many community projects.

Bill Loudon, Teresa Appleton and Theresa Brown were recognized as the remaining charter members of the Kiwanis of Flora.

A slide show was presented to illustrate the many service projects the Kiwanis have done over the past six years and to express their desire to continue with their work through the Flora Community Club.

The former Kiwanis Club has joined the Community Club and will continue their work as the K.I.C.K. Team (a committee of the community club). The name was chosen by the club because it stands for Keeping Involved with Community and Kids. Bill Loudon was chosen as committee chairman.

K.I.C.K. currently meets at noon on the first Tuesday of every month in the town council room in the Fireside Building. Those who choose to participate bring a brown bag lunch.

K.I.C.K. team members encourage any community club member who would like to become more involved in their community, to join the meeting. For more information about becoming a Community Club or a K.I.C.K. Team member, call 967-3022.

Charles Carroll DAR

Charles Carroll Chapter DAR met Oct. 18 at the home of Anne Briggs. The meeting was conducted by KarenWard, Regent.

Janalie Robeson led in the singing of "America," and Helen Yeager gave the National Defense Report.

New yearbooks, prepared by Darilee Robbins, were presented to the members.

Anne Briggs gave a report on an article in the DAR magazine about her college classmate, Anne Tyler Netick, greatgranddaughter of President John Tyler.

The program was given by Sandra Taylor, member ofWea Lea Chapter DAR,Monticello, on the history of fruit jars. She punctuated her presentation with multiple samples of fruit jars and their distinctive characteristics. The collection was started by her mother many years ago, and she carries on her mother's interest in it.

The next meeting will be at the home of Lucille Brown, Flora, on Jan. 15, 2008.
