Twigs, shells, fabric, bits of glass and imagination merged this week to bring the first Recycled Art Competition and Exhibit to the Delphi Public Library. The collaborative effort between the Camden, Flora and Delphi libraries is the final event of Carroll County on the Same Page Community Read.

The art competition was inspired by book selection, "The Glass Castle: A Memoir," and the underlying theme of resourcefulness. Author Jeannette Walls, who led a childhood riddled with emotional turmoil and poverty, learned to use discards for her own purposes. Her mother and sister also created art with items that they recovered from the local dump.

Several local artists stepped up to the challenge to create art works made exclusively from found or recycled objects. An exhibition of their works can be seen on the library's main floor and may be purchased through a silent auction. A portion of the proceeds will go to benefit Carroll County Habitat for Humanity. An opening reception and results of the competition will be Oct. 29 at 8 p.m.

The public is invited to attend the reception and are encouraged to purchase these unique art works for the benefit of Habitat for Humanity. For additional information call the library at (765) 564-2929.
