New kitchen cabinets for Carroll Elementary Carroll Elementary kitchen is getting new cabinets. The purchase was approved at the Oct. 16 Carroll School Board meeting. Superintendent John Sayers said the cost will be $5,277 plus approximately $340 for shipping and handling. The cabinets are being purchased from Great American Supply. The board had received two quotes for the cabinets. They should arrive in about four weeks. The board authorized the superintendent to have additional concrete poured at the site of the new concession stand at the softball/soccer complex. In addition to the six-foot concrete apron around the building, the board approved extending the concrete from the front of the building to the lift station. The board agreed to reuse the cabinets out of the old concession stand at the football field. Sayers said the cabinets are good, solid wood, but need refinishing. The following personnel were hired: Chase Richardson, varsity assistant swim coach; Tamara Stevens, sixth grade girls' cheerleading coach (sharing duties with Tammy Wickersham); and Amy Cottrell, assistant cross country coach. The board approved a request by Allison Meadows, former Carroll drama director, to borrow an exterior set, costumes, and props for use by the Dayton United Methodist Church. Nine conference and field trips were approved, including English 11 students to see the play "Of Mice and Men" at Marian College, FCCLA students to attend the National Cluster Meeting in Buffalo, N.Y., and FFA members to attend the National FFA Convention in Indianapolis. Sayers announced that the Common Construction Wage Committee meeting will be Nov. 8, and the Department of Local Government Finance tax meeting (with Carroll on the agenda) will be Nov. 15. Carroll Jr.-Sr. High School assistant principal Fred Schnarr announced that Red Ribbon Week is Oct. 23-31. He said funding for activities will come from Partners for a Drug-Free Carroll County/DUCC (Don't Underestimate Carroll County). He also reported that Carroll's own TV news will be broadcast soon, in place of Channel 1 news. Schnarr stated that Battle of the Books will start Nov. 1. He said there are about a dozen teams, involving more than 100 students. Schnarr said having the new technology coordinator, Angie Veach, on staff has been a big help. Maintenance supervisor Tom Allbaugh reported on the pool project. He said there is water in the pool now and the pumps are running, but it will be a couple of weeks before the pool can be used. The next regular school board meeting will be Nov. 6 at 7:30 p.m. in the Administration Building. There will be a 1028 hearing prior to the meeting, at 7 p.m. |
