The Lafayette-West Lafayette Development Corp. is making plans for the 11th annual DICKENS OFA CHRISTMAS, to be held Dec. 1 from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. in downtown Lafayette-West Lafayette. The following are needed for this event: choirs and entertainers, roving carolers, crafters of all kinds demonstrating their talents such as spinning, lace making, chair caning, potters, and blacksmiths. FLORA COMMUNITY CLUB is taking applications for club members who are interested in attending the 2008 Carroll County Leadership class. The club has a free scholarship to award. Interested members should mail their letter of interest to: Flora Community Club, P.O. Box 195, Flora IN 46929. Envelopes must be postmarked by Oct. 31, 2007.

Carroll County YMCA is sponsoring a LIFT-A-THON for ages 14 and older on Oct. 27, beginning at 9 a.m. Three competition categories will be held: Best Bench, Best Squat, Dead Lift. EXTENSION HOMEMAKERS will have a Council meeting at 1 p.m. Nov. 5 at the 4-H Building in Flora.

MODERN'S EXTENSION HOMEMAKERS will meet for lunch Oct. 25 at 1 p.m. at Stone House Restaurant in Delphi. Clara Rider will be hostess.

CARROLL COUNTY TREASURER'S OFFICE will be closed on Election Day, Nov. 6, and Veteran's Day, Nov. 12. CLAY TOWNSHIP tax statements were mailed Tuesday. Both 2007 spring and fall payments are due Nov. 13 by 5 p.m. Call (765) 564-3446 for further information.

The CARROLL COUNTY CLERK'S OFFICE will be open Saturday, Oct. 27 and Nov. 3, before the election from 8 a.m. to 12 noon. It was incorrectly reported in last week's Comet that the office would be open until 3 p.m. Clerk Laura Sterrett said that besides voting absentee by mail or traveling board, votes can be cast in her office Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays during regular business hours.
