County children can receive funds for inpatient charges at Riley Hospital
Comet staff report

Families from Carroll County whose children receive treatment at Riley Hospital for Children can seek financial assistance through the generosity of a local resident.

Each year families from Carroll County turn to Riley Hospital more than 500 times seeking medical care. Mae N. Eikenberry of Flora wanted to help those families.

Through her estate plan, Mrs. Eikenberry established the Mae N. Eikenberry Memorial Trust Fund. Each year the bank distributes the income from the trust to the Riley Children's Foundation to provide financial assistance for in patient hospital charges incurred at Riley Hospital for Children. Any Carroll County resident whose child is treated at Riley may apply to the fund. Mrs. Eikenberry placed no restrictions on the trust other than families must be from Carroll County.

To apply, families must: 1) let Riley Hospital social worker assigned to them know that they are interested in applying to the Eikenberry Trust Fund; and 2) complete and submit forms supplied by the social worker.

Once the forms are received the social worker and hospital personnel will help determine any assistance for which the family may be eligible using any state or federal program or other discounts provided through Clarian Health Partners. These items will be applied first.

If further assistance is needed, the social worker will request assistance from the Riley Children's Foundation on the family's behalf. The Riley Children's Foundation will determine what level of assistance it can provide through the trust, then notify the social worker, who will notify the family.
