DCSC taxpayers can provide input on facility needs
By Kevin Schnepp Staff writer

Patrons of Delphi Community School Corporation will soon have the opportunity to help guide the school's board of trustees through facility needs reviews. The time is coming for the taxpaying public to voice how much it's willing to pay - and for how long - for updates and upgrades to DCSC schools.

A host of renovation desires compiled by school staff and outside consultants will be scrutinized by patrons and the school board during upcoming work sessions and board meetings.

Work sessions and meetings, to be held in the corporation office unless otherwise noted, will be:

• Oct. 22 at 6 p.m. - review items and create the board's needs list;

• Nov. 5 at 6 p.m. - review priority needs list, followed by the board's regular meeting at 7;

• Nov. 19 at 6 p.m. - help board prepare list of options;

• Nov. 26 at 6 p.m. - review list of options and costs;

• Dec. 3 at 6 p.m. in the high school Little Theatre - public forum to discuss needs, cost, tax impact and schedule of events;

• Dec. 10 at 6 p.m. - review public comments and make adjustments, followed by the board's regular meeting at 7; and

• Dec. 17 at 6 p.m. in the Little Theatre - presentation of project to the board and public.

DCSC Superintendent Ralph Walker, who retired for 90 days beginning last week, will not be present for any of the meetings. Interim superintendent Steve Sailor will be in charge until the last school day before Christmas break according to school officials.

Board president Robert Resler said many items to be found on the renovation list are needs, not wants.

"I hope the public understands that many of these things just have to be done," Resler explained.
