Yearn to learn
Students in teacher Susan Freeman's second-grade class at Delphi Community Elementary School read from books purchased through a grant from the Delphi Education Foundation. Freeman used the grant to help build a library in her classroom. Now in its second year, the foundation has received permission from the federal government to receive monetary gifts and distribute them to teachers and programs within the corporation. President Leanne Aldrich said the foundation's goal is to be a vital part of school funding by distributing gifts from individuals, businesses and organizations to sustain current programs, revive useful ones cancelled due to decreased government funding, and provide resources for new ideas. "In a lot of ways money has been taken away from schools," Aldrich said. "Now schools can build their own support systems which will make a good impact and lessen taxpayer burdens."
