Elementary principal Carolyn O'Connell praised Sanders for her nursing skills, nurturing, humor, and involvement with the community. She organized vision screening, dental care, and other activities and events to benefit Carroll students. "She will be hard to replace," O'Connell said. Board president Sam Zook added that Sanders was instrumental in organizing the corporation's Wellness Policy. She resigned to take another position. Charisse Smith was hired as a family and consumer science teacher for the remainder of the 2007-2008 school year. Other hirings announced were Sara Thompson as part-time Title I instructional assistant and Tina Miller as sixth grade girls' basketball coach. Megan Coomler, first grade teacher, was granted maternity leave. A Common Construction Wage Committee was appointed in regard to piping and boiler work at the junior-senior high school. O'Connell announced that more than 4,000 rolls of trash bags were sold in a school fundraiser. Six conference and field trip requests were approved, as well as revised bus driver contracts. The board approved the teachers' master contract, which had already been ratified by the Carroll Education Association. (See related story on page 1 for details.) The board named Sayers, Barb Payne and Eric Johnson, with Dave Lambert as alternate, to serve on a teacher-board Wellness Benefits Committee.
