Library Delphi Public Story Hour theme for the week of Oct. 8 will be Jack O' Lanterns! Special story time programs are offered every Thursday starting with Baby Lap-sit at 9:30 a.m. for children age 3 months to 2 years. Toddler time at 10 and Preschool at 11:30. Calling all area artists and innovative individuals! Carroll County on the Same Page is sponsoring a Recycled Art Competition. Inspired by "The Glass Castle" and books with an underlying theme of resourcefulness, individuals ages 14 and up are invited to submit a work which utilizes items found, discarded or recyclable. Organizations, classes or businesses are invited to submit collaborative works. Entries must be dropped off at the library Oct. 19 for judging. Three submissions will be chosen and all works will be on display from Oct. 22-29. If artists wish to have their works included in a silent auction, a percentage of sales will go to benefit Carroll County Habitat for Humanity. For additional information and competition rules, call the library at (765) 564-2929. Mark Oct. 20 on your calendar for Coffee Beat. Entertainment will be Hoot and Annie. This talented and versatile group, which includes Annie Hatke, Kim Strother, Ian Thompson, and George Beuchley, will be strumming guitar, banjo, bass, and mandolin and playing harmonica. The evening of free entertainment starts at 7 p.m. Flora-Monroe Township The next Carroll County on the Same Page event will be hosted by the Flora Library. "Tell the Truth: The Glass Castle, the Media and You" will be Oct. 16 at 7 p.m. in the Richter Program Room. Come for an evening of conversation and ideas led by Jack Spencer, Associate Professor of Sociology, Purdue University. Spencer specializes in how the media presents social problems and influences our ideas about these issues. He will discuss several of the book's themes including homelessness, child neglect, and poverty, and explore how these issues are portrayed in the book and through the media. Multiple copies of "The Glass Castle" are available for checkout at Flora, Delphi and Camden libraries. Any Carroll County resident may check out the book. The deadline for the Recycled Art Competition is Oct. 19. The work should utilize items that are found, discarded or recyclable. Pick up a competition form at your local public library for details and information. The next storytime theme is "Colors." Autumn is the time of changing colors.
