Attorney shares what's great about America
By Kevin Schnepp Staff writer

What's Great About America? Flora attorney Miriam Robeson visited Delphi middle school eighth-graders in mid- September to answer that question from her perspective.

The visit was part of the Indiana State Bar Association's statewide Ask Me What's Great About America program to help educators celebrate Constitution Day with their students.

In an interview with the Comet late last month, Robeson said she tried to help students relate to the Bill of Rights in present terms. Using current issues as examples, she encouraged the young citizens to recognize the document's value.

Robeson said she received good questions from students, including posers about freedom of speech and rules of search and seizure, and that she felt her presence in the classroom made a positive impression.

"I think it's a good idea for students to see professionals and attorneys in the classroom," she said. "They may have learned (about the Constitution) in a different way than reading it."
