Delphi JV 13, Benton Central 6

The Oracle JV football team evened their overall record Monday night to 4-4 by defeating Benton Central 13-6. The Oracles scored first on a Cory Smith run for eight yards. The kick by Dayton Rummell was good for the extra point.

The Bison came back with an 80-yard screen to make the score 7-6. The Oracles held the Bison out for the extra point. In the third quarter, Derek Bradshaw had a three-yard TD run. The kick failed.

Delphi's next game will be at home next week against Carroll.

Delphi 8th 24, Benton Central 0

The Delphi Middle School 8th grade defeated Benton Central 24-0 last Thursday at Berto Field. The Oracle's Karson Bender scored two touchdowns, one on a 35-yard interception return in the first quarter and the other on a 50-yard pass reception from Matt Brown in the second quarter. Tanner Lynde ran for a 30-yard touchdown and two, 2-point conversions. Matt Brown added to his stat line with a 2-point conversion.

Defensively, the shutout was an entire team effort. The Bison were not allowed to move the ball past the 50-yard line until late in the fourth quarter. The defensive line played well, as did the linebackers. The secondary broke up 2 passes and intercepted 2 passes. Cole Whitaker added the second interception in the third quarter.

The Oracle 8th grade has improved to 5-2 and is riding a 4-game win streak. The team is still unbeaten in conference play.

The next conference competition will be at home Oct. 4 against Twin Lakes' Roosevelt Middle School.

Benton Central 7th 44, Delphi 20

The Oracle 7th grade played a hard fought game against Benton Central last Thursday night, losing 44-20. Kaleb Salyer led the Oracles offensively with 2 touchdowns and plenty of hard-earned rushing yards. Daniel Pearson also scored a touchdown, along with making 5 long runs. Cody Miller and Blake Walters connected for the longest pass play of the year - 45 yards.

The Oracles have two games remaining.
