The jury in the case of Julius& Julius, clothiers, against G.J. (to protect identity),came in with a verdict after only a short consideration of the case. They found that the chargesmade by Julius& Julius were true and gave them a judgment for the full amount asked. It will be recalled that Julius & Julius claimed that G.J. came into their store and gave a 50-cent piece to James Haughey, a clerk, claiming itwas a $20 gold piece and received $19.75 in change for it. The case has excited much attention.
G.J. has concluded not to appeal his famous 50
cent-twenty dollar-gold piece case to the Circuit court, but Monday morning paid
up and quit. Aside from his attorney's fees it cost him $19.50 to Julius &
Julius and $30.45 in Justice court costs. Besides that he got a whole lot of
advertising not at all beneficial to one's character.
