The library will be closed Oct. 5 for staff development and training. It will reopen Oct. 6 at 10 a.m.

Story Hour theme for the week of Oct.1 will be Season and Apples! Programs are offered every Thursday starting with Baby Lap-sit at 9:30 a.m., toddler time at 10 and preschool at 11:30.

The Oct. 18 Cinema Night will feature "The Ultimate Gift" starring James Garner and Abigail Breslin. Based on the best-selling book by Jim Stovall, the story sends trust-fund baby Jason Stevens on an improbable journey of discovery, having to answer the ultimate question, "What is the relationship between wealth and happiness?" The film starts at 7 p.m. Dessert and discussion will follow.

In Stitches will meet Oct. 22 at 6:30 p.m. All fiber crafters should plan on bringing their knitting, quilting, crocheting or needlecraft projects for an evening of stitching and conversation. Please bring a dessert or snack to share too.

Evening Book Club will meet Oct. 24 to discuss "Interpreter of Maladies" by Jhumpa Lahiri, Faith Inspired Book Club Oct. 25 for a discussion of "Reduce Me to Love" by Joyce Meyer and Morning Book Club Oct. 26 at 9 a.m. to discuss "The Good Pig" by Sy Montgomery. Multiple copies of all three titles are available at the library.

Flora-Monroe Township

The library welcomed visitors from Carroll Elementary School's kindergarten classes. They had special guest Jerry Reinke reading them a story in the children's library, then continued on their community tour of Flora.

Banned Books Week runs through Saturday. The theme for 2007 is "Free People Read Freely." Celebrate your freedom to read by visiting the library and choosing any book of your choice to check out and read.

Do you have a plan in place for your family in the event of a tornado, flood, or blizzard? Now is the time to prepare and the library can help. The Indiana State Department of Health has made available "Everybody Ready," a brochure highlighting disaster preparedness for individuals and families.

The brochure walks you through making a plan and how to assemble an emergency disaster kit. A little advance planning can make the difference between tragedy and survival. Make a plan to be safe using the resources in the brochure, available at the main desk.

The next storytime theme is "Farms." It's harvest time! A great time to talk about farms and the animal friends who live there. Preschool storytime is Tuesday mornings at 10 a.m.
