Delphi adopts personnel policy
By Debbie Lowe Staff writer

The contentious subject of an update to the city ofDelphi's personnel policy manual was settled quickly, without fanfare, at last Wednesday evening's board of worksmeeting.Because the policieswere not completed at the last city council meeting, council member and mayoral hopeful Randy Strasserwould not support the adoption of the 2008 budget at the meeting.

"Keep in mind, this is a working document," Delphi Mayor LeeHoard said as board ofworks members Carolyn Pearson and William Miller voted unanimously to approve the policy.

Pearson noted there were typographical errors that needed to be corrected. Hoard said city attorney Miriam Robeson would make those corrections and any others needed before the final document was signed by Pearson and Miller.

"I don't expect there to be significant changes made to the policy right now," Pearson told the Comet Thursday. "However, if there are, we will need to approve modifications."

The policies were effective Sept. 18.

Other business

Delphi High School senior Kyle Bender received permission to pursue a graffiti clean-up effort in Delphi. He said students would volunteer to paint out the vandalism on private property with donated paint.

Bender explained he is an intern with the law firm of Emerson and Manahan this semester. As part of his internship, he penned a liability-release form for property owners to be used with the project.

"I would be very much in favor of this project," Hoard said.

Hoard said the city would assist with the community project as needed.

The next board of works meeting will be Oct. 1 at 6:30 p.m. just prior to the city council meeting at 7.
