Cougar soccer team rolls on Senior Day The Carroll soccer team welcomed Rensselaer to town on Saturday for Senior Day, winning 3-1 for a 7-7 season record. Rensselaer scored first, less than 5 minutes into the game. After giving up 4 shots and a goal in the first 5 minutes, the Cougars put the clamps on and only gave up 2 shots the rest of the game. Chase Meade evened the score in the 17th minute off of a direct kick from Justin Moffitt. Meade was able to get the ball around the keeper and finish a shot. Meade struck again with just over 2 minutes left in the half with a header on a corner kick by Steve Bartel. The Cougars finished the scoring to put the game out of reach just 30 seconds into the second half with a chip over the goalie by Steven Arendsen. Adam Tussinger had 6 saves for the Cougars. The Cougars honored their seven seniors at the half. They are CJ Grace, Kasey Kult, Matt Morehouse, Kara Overholser, Tussinger, Bartel and Anna Scharer. The Cougars retained the Mike Landis Trophy by knocking off Delphi at Delphi park 4- 0. The Cougars scored less than 3 minutes into the game with a header by Meade, off of a corner by Bartel. Arendsen added the second goal with a long shot that snuck inside the post. Michael Myer scored with 5 minutes left in the first half off of an assist by Meade on a long throw-in. Myer scored the final goal of the game with 18 minutes to go in the game on a penalty kick. The Cougars have two games remaining, both of which will be home at the school. This Saturday Carroll will host Western Boone at 11 a.m. and next Tuesday the Cougars will host Central Catholic at 5 p.m. Fan support is appreciated as the Cougars look to finish the season strong. |
