Burlington Community

The Burlington Community Library will hold a six-week Toddler Story Time on Tuesdays, Oct. 2 through Nov. 6, from 10 to 10:30 a.m.

The story time is open to children ages 18 months through three years.

All children must have a caregiver present during the program.

The program is free and no registration is required.

The library is located on the corner of State Road 29 and 7th Street in Burlington.

A presentation in the Carroll County on the Same Page community read project will be given by Marion Hathaway at 7 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 3, at the library. He will tell about family hardships in his growing up years during the Depression.

A second speaker, Phyllis Moore, will tell about families in Carroll County history who survived through difficult times.

The theme for the evening, "Outlasting Tough Times," is related to family life portrayed in the Carroll County on the Same Page book, "The Glass Castle" by Jeannette Walls.

Fall after-school storytime will begin Oct. 4 at 4 p.m. Judie Peters will be the storytime leader. All children are welcome.

Come to the library for information on the Recycled Art Competition sponsored by the Camden-Jackson Twp. Public Library, Delphi Public Library, and Flora-Monroe Twp. Public Library. Entry rules are available at the libraries. Projects must be delivered to the Delphi Public Library on Oct. 19 between 10 a.m. and 6 p.m.

"Seasons and Apples!" will be the Story Hour theme for the week of Oct. 1 Fall is all around and apples abound in song, stories and games for children and their caregivers. Programs are offered every Thursday, with Baby Lap-sit at 9:30 a.m. Toddler time at 10 and Preschool at 11:30.

Faith Inspired Book Club will be Sept. 27 at 9 a.m. for a discussion of Christian author Ted Dekker's novel "Blink." The novel chronicles a desperate flight to the United States by Saudi Arabain princess Miriam al- Asamm, who seeks to escape an unwanted arranged marriage.

Morning Book Club will discuss "The Brief History of the Dead" by Kevin Brockmeier Sept. 28 at 9 a.m. Coffee and refreshments are first followed by a discussion led by Kelly Currie.

Multiple copies of these book club selections are available at the library.

The Oct. 20 free Coffee Beat features Hoot and Annie. Lafayette musicians Kim Strother and Annie Hatke will begin festivities at 7 p.m. These talented musicians will bring their easy folk style as well as an assortment of instruments.

The Friends of the Delphi Public Library will host a Scavenger Hunt, Oct. 7 from 1 to 4 p.m. at the library. Rain date is Oct. 14. The public is invited to attend and enjoy family fun. Prizes will be awarded to the individual or team with the most correct answers to clues and the fastest response time. Children and teen activities plus food and entertainment will be provided provided outdoors. The Scavenger Hunt is free. Hope to see you there!

Flora-Monroe Township

Banned Books Week, an annual celebration of the freedom to read, is Sept. 29 through Oct. 6 with the theme, "Free People Read Freely."

Each year, librarians, booksellers, teachers and countless others take this opportunity to highlight the importance of intellectual freedom and remind us not to take this precious democratic freedom lightly. Look for special displays throughout the library during Banned Books Week.

Upcoming programs for the Carroll County on the Same Page include "Outlasting Tough Times with Marion Hathaway and Phyllis Moore," Oct. 3 at 7 p.m. at the Camden Library; and "Tell the Truth: The Glass Castle, the Media and You," Oct. 16 at 7 p.m. here at the Flora Library.

The Scrabble Scrimmage for Literacy will be Oct. 4 from 6 to 8 p.m. in the Delphi Community High School Commons. Get a team together and have fun while you help a great cause. Registration forms are available at the main desk. Registration will close Sept. 28.

The next storytime theme is "Fall." Autumn has arrived, the leaves are falling, and the wind is blowing in a new season! Bring your child to the library for fun fall stories and a few surprises! Preschool storytime is Tuesday mornings at 10 a.m.

Dial-a Story is available 24 hours a day. Currently playing is "The Titans." On Friday the new story will be "Thumbelina." Call Dial-a-Story, 967- 3814.
