Cougars are runners-up in Caston Soccer Tourney Carroll varsity soccer team had a rough week. Beginning last Tuesday, Sept. 11, the Cougars paid a visit to Lafayette Faith Baptist. On a windy day, the Cougars gave up 2 early goals and were never able to overcome the deficit. Michael Myer gave the Cougars 2 goals in the second half, but the Cougars lost 4-2. Last weekend the Cougars competed in the Caston Tournament. Friday night, the Cougars had one of their best passing games of the year and won 3-0 over Southwood, out of Wabash. Chase Meade got the scoring started for the Cougars off of an assist by Steven Arendsen. Arendsen then added a goal of his own with a long shot that made it through the keeper's hands. Michael Myer finished off scoring with an indirect kick with 7 minutes to go. The Cougar defense limited Southwood to just 4 shots on goal, all of which were kept out of the goal by Adam Tussinger. With the win, the Cougars played Caston for the championship. The Cougars came in as the 2-time defending champs of the Caston Tourney. Carroll controlled the game and had more shots on goal, however the Cougars could not put one in the net. The game went into a shoot-out and the Cougars were unable to win. Monday, Carroll was in action again, this time against Tipton. This was the first matchup between the two schools and Tipton got the better of the Cougars. Carroll fought hard, but was unable to bounce back from 2 early mishaps that led to a 2-0 halftime score. The Cougars did manage a second half goal by Michael Myer, but were unable to complete the comeback. The Cougars' record stands at 5-7 with four games remaining. They play Thursday at Delphi and then are home again Saturday at 10 a.m. hosting Rensselaer at the high school field. This will be senior day and fan support will be appreciated. |
