Time for an attitude adjustment Itwas very disheartening to read the articles on the Carroll County Council and theDelphiCityCouncilmeetings. If these articles are accurate as I assume they are, I have to say there is amajor power struggle for leadership going on in Carroll County. It seems that the oldmemberswant it their way because it's always been that way, or maybe they just want it theirway. The newermembers think theirway could be better but have not expressed themselves in a way to change other people's minds. It almost seems as if most have decided the other side isn't listening sowhymake the effort to discuss it in a professional way. These leaders truly need to sit down and iron out these problems and soon. Newblood is needed but the old blood also needs to be there for the experience. If the old doesn't share their knowledge with the new, howcan any one be expected to make sound judgment calls about anything? Please put away your pettiness and share your thoughts respectfully. Do your homework and find a solution to these problems as you promised to do when elected. Also, remember just because you were elected that does not make you untouchable. You have to be able to take criticisms, and respond in a way that gives that person the respect that is deserved. You are not just answering their question, you are answering all those you represent. As a citizen, I should be able to ask these questions. I also expect the persons I elected to respond with an informed and constructive answer. Each and every elected official, please remember, just because no one else wants to stand up and do your job does notmean you are not expected to do your job intelligently, respectfully and wisely. There will come a day when we will need new people and those that could or would do the job won't. Why? Because of what they are nownot seeing in your actions as well as not wanting to be treated in this way. Put yourself in those people's shoes and then respond. Is that the way you want the people of this beautiful county to remember you? I don't think I would want to see any more articles like the ones in this week's paper. Step up and change this unacceptable behavior and do a job you can be proud of. Isn't that why you chose this position? Sandra Prendergast Camden Against going to court with sewer district I think taxpayers should be aware of the potential lawsuit by CarrollCounty againstTwinLakes Regional Sewer District. The Carroll County Commissioners have asked the Carroll County Council for funds to sue for jurisdiction of the project for sewers around Lake Freeman and form a Conservancy District. This is at a timewhenCarroll County does not have enough money to keep up the roads and pay for other county expenses. How long has it been since county employees have had a raise? IfCarrollCounty funds $50,000, that is just the beginning. It will take a lotmore than that and then it could face a counter lawsuit. TLRSD has a million dollars in costs for design, engineering, etc that they have incurred so far. I see only increased cost for TLRSD customers andCarrollCounty taxpayers with a lawsuit. The commissioners are going against their own attorney's advice of not to sue! The Conservancy may have been a good idea if someone had moved it forward years ago...but no one did and TLRSD was asked by previous commissioners to handle the project. I agree with their decision. I hear from conservancy people that they can do better, but theConservancy has no estimates of cost or time frame for this project. A conservancy from down south came to the conservancy meeting and talked about the one they have in place in their area. At this time their hook-up is $4,100 and $55 per month. Doesn't sound like a better deal tome! I think a $1,000 hook-up is cheap for a project this size. $65 is a worse case scenario of monthly bills (that is if they do not have to pay more for lawyer fees)! I will accept that for the piece ofmind to know that my house will not be condemned for lack of an area to put a septic. I have a working systemnow, butwhat about next year! I alsowant cleanwater for the lake! This project is way over due on Lake Freeman! Ask the Carroll County Council not to fund the lawsuit. Ron Kleckner Jefferson Township resident |
