Library Burlington Community The Burlington Community Library will hold a six-week Toddler Story Time on Tuesdays, Oct. 2 through Nov. 6, from 10 to 10:30 a.m. The story time is open to children ages 18 months through three years. Themed stories and fun action songs will highlight each week. All children must have a caregiver present during the program. The program is free and no registration is required. The library is located on the corner of State Road 29 and 7th Street in Burlington. Hours of operation are 10 a.m. to noon, and 1 to 7 p.m. on Tuesdays and Thursdays. The library's phone number is 765- 566-3166. Delphi "The Squid and the Whale," starring Jeff Daniels and Laura Linney, will be featured Sept. 20 at Cinema Night. Based on the true childhood experiences of Noah Baumbach and his brother, the story tells of two young boys dealing with their parents divorce in Brooklyn in the 1980's. The film starts at 7 p.m. and dessert and discussion will follow. Story Hour theme for the week of Sept. 23 will be "Ho for Hats!" Children and caregivers will sing songs, hear stories about hats of all shapes and sizes. The program is open to infants through preschoolers. Special story time programs are offered every Thursday starting with Baby Lap-sit at 9:30 a.m. Baby Lap-sit, designed for children age 3 months to 2 years, with songs, finger-plays, and lap activities to stimulate your baby and help them increase their early literacy skills. Toddler time is at 10 followed by preschool at 11:30 Members of Delphi's Red Brick Theatre will present a "Readers Theatre" at Barnes and Noble in Lafayette Sept. 30. To honor Banned Book Week and to celebrate the freedom to read, selected passages from four books most frequently challenged in the U.S. will be presented. Actors will read from: "The Stupids Step Out," by Harry Allard at 2 p.m., "Are You There God? It's Me, Margaret" by Judy Blume at 3, "Catcher in the Rye," by J. D. Salinger at 4 and conclude with a presentation from "The Adventures of Tom Sawyer," by Mark Twain at 5 p.m. For program information call the library at (765) 564-2929. Flora-Monroe Township September is Library Card Sign-up Month, and the Flora Library wants to make sure that your child is among the twothirds of Americans that carry the smartest card of all - a library card. Libraries play an important role in the education and development of children. Studies show that children who are read to in the home and who use the library perform better in school and are more likely to continue to use the library as a source of lifetime learning.
