Meetings At a recent meeting, the Tippecanoe Chapter of the American Red Cross elected executive board members for 2007-08. Board members elected were: Lina Reeves-Kerner, chapter chairman; Steve Viars, vice chairman; Denise Hollinger, secretary; Alisa Morehouse, treasurer; and David Ostheimer, assistant treasurer. Christine Brady was presented the Mike Donoho Award for Exceptional Disaster Services for her dedication, leadership and service on local disaster action teams. Tippecanoe County Sheriff Tracy Brown received the EuloraAndrew Award for Exceptional Volunteer Service for his fundraising efforts including the creation and management of the organization's annual fish fry. Wednesday Forum Members of Wednesday Forum met at the home of Martha Justice for the September meeting. Norma Sullivan spoke about author Roger Lea MacBride's continuation of the Little House book series by Laura Ingalls Wilder. MacBride wrote eight more books about Wilder's daughter, RoseWilder Lane. MacBride was Lane's adopted grandson. He participated in the creation of the Little House on the Prairie television series. Delphi CWF The CWF of the Delphi Christian Church met Sept. 4 with Lee Nydegger as hostess. Twelve members were present. The carpet has been installed on the front steps. The musical group Water N2 Wine will be singing Sept. 9, with a potluck dinner following the program. It was announced that Ruth Snyder has moved to George Davis Manor in West Lafayette. Winnie Beard gave the lesson on angels. The next meeting will be Oct. 2 with Sharon Quinn as hostess. There will be a white elephant/ bake sale. Rock Creek EH Rock Creek Extension Homemakers Club met at the home of Kathy Snoeberger. One guest was present, Marjorie Reynolds. The birthdays of Grace Deel and Kathy Snoeberger were recognized. Club members were thanked by Scott Guckien for their help and contributions during the fair. The health and safety lesson on home remedies was given by Marjorie Been. She said lye soap is good for poison ivy, sunburn, and mosquito bites. Remedy for an aching tooth is half a raisin sprinkled with pepper. Kathy Snoeberger read an article about "Ice to Refrigeration" for cultural arts. For the citizenship lesson, she read an article about area police agencies changing their cars. The club made 20 stuffed bears for the county. The next meeting will be at the home of Helen Benefiel. Classy Classics Classy Classics Extension Homemakers met this month at the home of Kathy Northcutt with 10 members present. The hostess gave devotions on stars and the relationship to our lives, with Scripture from Isaiah. Topics of discussion included the fair, clothing and money collection, and the holiday workshop. Discussion on decorating a Victorian Christmas tree was tabled. Material to make vests is needed. Kathy Northcutt and Judy Downham gave a lesson on how to conduct a Family/Friends Game Night. The next meeting will be Oct. 9 at the home of Mary Bush. Bridge-A-Rama Bridge-A-Rama high scorers for August were Rita Wingard and Donnabelle Sieber with 4,680 points, Jan and Marion Hathaway with 3,770 and Jane Smith and Sieber with 3,560. High scorers in each group were Mary Kelly and Sieber, Betty Trapp and Anne Briggs, Helen Schilling and Joann Vianco, Melba Hughes and Schilling, Mary Brown and Leann Aldrich, Schilling and Vianco, Jane Smith and Vianco, Donna and Jack Cross and Jack Cohee and Robert Crume. All proceeds from Bridge-ARama support Tri-Kappa scholarships. |
