Carroll soccer started a new page in its brief history book on Thursday night. Carroll opened its new field at the high school with a 2-0 win over Caston.

The evening started with a dedication of the field. Principal Charles Huckstep dedicated the field to the current Carroll team and to the teams of the future. He thanked all the parents, students and others who have worked hard to take soccer from a dream to reality - a process of seven years. Soccer has been a varsity sport at Carroll for three years, with David Falkenberg as coach. It was a club sport before that.

Assistant coach Gail Stout, who has been with the program since its inception, tossed the game ball to the officials to signal the opening of the field.

Coach Falkenberg made one change in the lineup, and it paid immediate dividends for the Cougars. Chase Meade was made a forward and will go into the history books as making the first goal ever scored on the new field. Twenty-five minutes into the game, he took a pass from Michael Myer and put the ball in the net.

The half-time score was 1-0 for the Cougars. The home team put the game out of reach with 24 minutes to go in the game with a goal by Steven Arendsen, who scored off an assist from Myer.

The Cougar defense held Caston to just four shots on goal, all of which were saved by senior keeper Adam Tussinger.

At the end of the day, the final glory for the Cougars was ringing the victory bell.

The next game on their home field will be Sept. 17, hosting Tipton for the first time.

The Cougars were 4-4 going into the game with Faith Baptist on Tuesday. They will compete in the Caston tournament Friday and Saturday.

"Thanks for all the fan support," said Coach Falkenberg. "We look forward to seeing you again on the 17th."
