An era has passed in Democrat Township. For drivers, that passing will make life a little easier. The single lane bridge on CR 500S in Cutler has been removed. There is no longer a need for the bridge since the railroad line has been disbanded.
For the first time in the fouryear history of the Bacon Bowl, the Delphi Oracles have put a "D" on the skillet. Following one of the best contests between the county rivals in recent memory, the Oracles came away with the 27-21 victory over the Carroll Cougars

Folks around Lake Freeman have been regarding with suspicion a number of small metal foil strips found floating on the lake and sprinkled on lawns. There were too many of these strange particles of metal to pass them off as the customary litter found in a lake area. Then too, radios and television sets were acting abnormally, with jumpy and poorly focused pictures. All in all, there seemed to be something going on, and what with all this talk lately of flying saucers. Well, everyone was pretty relieved when the word got around that the foil strips were tossed out of our own U.S. Army planes for experimental radar interference work. Lake Freeman folks heaved a sigh of relief and are allowing the metal strips to fall where they may.
75 YEARS AGO The Consolidated Schools of Delphi and Deer Creek township will open Friday, with a half day session.
The first day will be given to organization and to giving out lists of books and supplies.
There should be a sufficient number of used art books to supply all grades except the beginning class, if pupils will bring the used books in.
If all used text books are brought into school to be sold, it will mean a great saving to parents.
All new books will be found at the Elless & Orr drug store. 100 YEARS AGO
The Flora Schools opened Monday with the largest attendance in the history of the schools, there being enrolled 360 pupils the first day, the enrollment in the high school being 90.
Another commendable feature of the school is that work begun the first day, no time being lost in getting acquainted or in getting ready. By the co-operation of the patrons and the general public this bids fair to be the banner year in the history of the schools.
