The ALZHEIMER'S ASSOCIATION Greater Indiana Chapter has opened a new office at 100 Saw Mill Road, Lafayette. A Grand Opening will be held at the office on Sept. 21 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., with a ribbon cutting ceremony occurring at 9 a.m.

Sept. 21 marks World Alzheimer's Day, during which Alzheimer organizations from around the world work together to raise awareness of the disease - and the many millions of lives it affects every day. More than 5 million Americans are living with Alzheimer's and that number is expected to grow to as many as 16 million by mid century if something is not done.

The Alzheimer's Association is asking people to visit the office on World Alzheimer's Day to learn more about Alzheimer's and also to sign up for the Memory Walk that will be Oct. 7 at Cumberland Park in West Lafayette. The Association is looking for 100 teams to support 100,000 Hoosiers living with the disease.

LOGANSPORT MEMORIAL HOSPITAL has recently been awarded the prestigious Education Recognition Certificate from the American Diabetes Association (ADA). The award recognizes the continued excellence of the diabetes education offered to the patients of Memorial Hospital under RN, Certified Diabetes Educator.

The ADA's Education Recognition Certificate assures that Memorial's diabetes programs meet national standards for diabetes selfmanagement.

According to the American Diabetes Association, there are 20.8 million people or 7% of the population in the United States who have diabetes. About 1/3 are not aware that they have the disease and will first learn about it when they are treated for one of its life-threatening complications - heart disease and stroke, kidney disease, blindness, and nerve disease and amputation.
