Traveling trophy
      Athletes at Carroll and Delphi will vie for the new Mike Landis Traveling Trophy when the two schools play each other in varsity sports beginning this season. The 'skillet' will remain as the trophy for the annual Bacon Bowl.

Matt Benner writes cross country novel

      Matthew (Matt) Benner is a local teacher, coach, and now, a published author. His book is titled "Tales of the 5K." It will be officially released on Sept. 24. With 200 pages and 28 chapters, Benner said the book is mainly for teenagers and adults.

Carroll girls set new team golf record
      The Carroll Girls Golf Team set a new 9-hole team record in defeating Lewis Cass and Winamac. Carroll won with a 178, followed by Lewis Cass with 191 and Winamac 209. The previous record was 186.

Oracles bedeviled at West Side

      The Delphi Oracles football team went on the road for the third time in as many weeks, this time at West Lafayette. They limped home on the short side of a 45-21 score despite the workhorse effort of running back Cory Banes, who accounted for the bulk of Delphi's offense with over 30 carries.

      DCMS cross country teams both finish first The end of August was a busy time for the Delphi Middle School co-ed cross-country team. On Aug. 28 the boys and girls teams traveled to Monon and competed against North White. Both teams finished first.

Poker run fundraiser is rescheduled

      The Battle Ground Lions Club motorcycle poker run scheduled for Aug. 25 was rained out and is rescheduled for Sept. 22. The poker run hosted by the Battle Ground Lions Club will start at 11 a.m. from 101 Main Street in Battle Ground.
