Stacia Harper has the philosophy, "If you don't enter, you can't win." So she applied online for an Edy's ice cream block party and won!

She said when she got something in the mail from Edy's, she thought it was probably a coupon. When she opened it, she discovered that she would be receiving a "Party in a Box" for 100 neighbors and friends.

The ice cream (Edy's Slow Churned light ice cream) arrived on dry ice, along with ice cream cups, spoons, scoops, napkins, a tablecloth, door hangers, a yard sign, and more.

Stacia said coupons for more free and discount-price ice cream also came with the package.

In all, she had about 16 gallons of ice cream to serve at the block party last Sunday evening.

Her neighborhood is Main Street in Flora, and about 60 neighbors, family members, and friends came to the party and sampled the many flavors. There was plenty to go around, so some had seconds and thirds.

Big bite Rebecca Swinney, age 2, had ice cream all over her by the time she finished this ice cream cone.
Some of the lip-smacking flavors were Hollywood cheesecake, chocolate mocha mousse, caramel delight, double fudge brownie, and take-thecake.

The Edy's people read letters from all over the country, telling why their neighborhoods deserved the block party. Harper said she was one of 1,500 grand prize winners across the U.S.

"I just wrote that we were all busy, but not too busy to help each other out," Stacia said. Then she gave examples of what they do for each other.

She said the neighborhood enjoyed the ice cream and enjoyed sitting outside and talking. The party was held in the grassy area next to the United Methodist Church parsonage.

Stacia said although most of the neighborhood knows each other, two neighbors who have lived close to each other for 20 years had never met until the block party.
