Cougars even with win/lose

The Carroll soccer team ended its second week of the season with an overall record of 2-1.

The Cougars started off the week welcoming Delphi to town. The Cougars won the first ever opportunity at the Mike Landis traveling trophy. Landis, a former athletic director at both Carroll and Delphi, died a few years ago in a serious car accident. The trophy in memory of him will be present at every varsity event between Delphi and Carroll, with the exception of football. The winner will retain the trophy at their school until the next athletic meeting between the schools.

The Cougars tallied seven goals and held the Oracles to just one shot. Cody Abdon had 2 goals with Michael Myer, Chase Meade, Justin Moffitt, CJ Grace and Tyler Plank all getting one. Jared Kelley had 10 saves for the Oracles.

In their second game of the week the Cougars fell to Tri- Central in an overtime shootout. With a chance for conference champions on the line, the Cougars played well and gave the huge crowd all they could ask for. At half time 0-0, the Cougars' defense kept the game tied. Tri-Central started the scoring but the Cougars' Chase Meade answered with an individual effort right up the middle with a 25-yard shot into the back of the net. Tri-Central took the lead again but sophomore Michael Myer tied the game on an assist from Meade with 3 minutes left on the clock. Neither team could finish a shot in the overtimes and Tri-Central capitalized on their opportunities in the shootout.

The Cougars played Tuesday at Rossville and play this Saturday at the Danville Tourney with their first game against Martinsville.
