Last quarter TD pass lifts Oracle JV over WL

Delphi's junior varsity football team defeated West Lafayette Monday night 12-8.

The Red Devils went on top in the second period, when on a third and long the Red Devils converted a touchdown and a two-point conversion to go ahead 8-0. The Oracles answered the call with a 65-yard scoring drive. The drive ended on a six-yard slant pass to Dustin Salyer from Tanner Cripe. The conversion failed and the half ended.

In the third quarter the Oracles drove the ball 60 yards for nine minutes and ten seconds to only falter on the ten-yard line, yielding an interception. The Red Devils had a 50-yard run on their first play from scrimmage. The Oracle defense bent and bent but never broke.

With 1:23 seconds left in the game the Oracles had one shot left. Tanner Cripe hit Dustin Salyer once again for an 80- yard pass reception. The extra point failed. The Oracle defense held the Red Devils for the win.

Highlights on the game were the power running of Cory Smith, the passing game of Cripe to Salyer and Nathan Mc- Tigue. The defense was led by Derek Bradshaw.

Monday night's win was the team's first. Next up for the Oracle JV is Twin Lakes on Saturday.
