Readers...what do you want to know???
By Debbie Lowe Staff writer

Community members will soon be given budget information as well as county and city audit information via the Comet. Many residents will be soaring through the cities' and town election process. This means that there will be a lot of valuable, and perhaps detailed, information presented in the newspaper in the next few months for readers to understand.

The Comet strives to print the most pertinent and timely information for the community to digest at all times, and we think we do a decent job of that. But there is always room for improvement.

Comet staff understands the awesome task of being the eyes and the ears of the community. We want to be the best that we can be. In an effort to include information that you, our readers, consider important and want to know about, we are asking for your input to help guide us.

We will soon be interviewing community leaders about important topics facing Carroll County and local municipalities. We would like to know what topics you consider important.

What information do you want to learn when you read about the budget? Do you care if the council appropriated more money than was collected in 2007 or 2006? Do you want to know what each department head had to say about their appropriations, or lack thereof? Do you want to see the actual figures or would it be better for you if we condensed the information and only hit the high notes?

What about the county and city audit results, which are expected to be public by the middle of September? What information would you like to see in the paper about those reports? Do you want to hear what the exit interviews with the mayor and the presidents of the council and commissioners contained? Do you want to know what the Indiana State Board of Accounts had to say about each department, or would it be better if we picked just a few departments to report about?

What about those elections? What questions do you have for the candidates? What topics would you like to see discussed at a debate or in an article, or both?

We encourage each and every one of you to e-mail us with suggestions. We make no promises that we will use every suggestion received, but we will strive to give to you, our readers, what you want. It is our job.

Please e-mail suggestions to editor@carrollcountycomet. com or dlowe@carrollcountycomet.com.

We appreciate your positive and meaningful suggestions about how to better serve you.
