Merrill D. Shafer
He was born Feb. 21, 1944, in Logansport to Meredith M. and Betty Beall Shafer. He was a 1962 graduate of Camden High School. He married Sheron Brady on Sept. 24, 1967, at Wheatland Avenue United Methodist Church, and she survives. Mr. Shafer had been employed at General Tire, Gen Corp. and Trellborg Manufacturing. He had been employed at the Cass County Highway Dept. until recently. He was a U.S. Army veteran, serving as a military police officer. For many years he was active in Walton Little League, where he was past president. Mr. Shafer was a member of Walton Christian Church. He enjoyed golf, bowling and snowmobiling. Surviving with his wife are a daughter, Kimberly Henry (husband: Tom) of Orlando, Fla.; two sons, Jesse Shafer (wife: Heather) of Walton and Brad Holt (wife: Rosie) of Kokomo; a dear family friend, Keith Razer of Galveston; six grandchildren, Taylor, Logan and Jordan Henry, Peyton and Nolan Shafer, and Rachel Holt; two brothers, Everett "Rusty" Shafer (wife: Marsha) of Wolcott and Kevin Shafer (wife: Pam) of Flora; two sisters, Sharon Packard of Kokomo and Sandra Prendergast (husband: Steve) of Camden; an aunt, Frances "Babe" Gish of Camden; and a number of cousins. Services are today, Wednesday, at 11 a.m. at Kroeger Funeral Home in Logansport. Bill Collins of Walton Christian Church will officiate. Burial with full military honors will be at Walton I.O.O.F.
