Kiwanis Touch A Fleet Day set for Sept. 8 in Flora Flora Kiwanis Club announces its third annual Touch a Fleet of Trucks Day on Saturday, Sept. 8, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. (rain or shine). The event will be held at the Flora Community Park. This is a fun and learning day for the whole family. Children and parents can take a close-up view of trucks and other equipment. In some cases, children will be able to climb behind the wheel. They will learn how the vehicles are used and why they are needed. The event is a fundraiser for the Flora Kiwanis, so a small admission price will be charged. Children under 12 must be accompanied by an adult. Proceeds are used to fund various children's programs and needs throughout the year. Kiwanis is expecting 40 vehicles and pieces of equipment to take part in the event. Examples of participants are Flora Police and Fire Departments, National Guard, County Highway Department, Rodkey Implements, Lafayette Limo, and Gardiner's RV. There will be race cars, a trencher, bucket truck, construction equipment, and much more. There also will be various demonstrations throughout the day. At 10 a.m., the Phi Air Med helicopter will land in the ball field. There will be instructional tours of the helicopter until its lift-off at approximately 11 a.m. Air Indiana Skydiving Center will do a skydiving demonstration at around 10:30 a.m. Concessions will be available in the Junior Leaders stand, and families can sit at the picnic tables under the shade trees in the park. |
