Processional support
Residents, business people and government employees line Delphi streets while Delphi American Legion Post #75, Delphi Veterans of Foreign Wars Post #9383 and Camden American Legion Post #413 present military rites for fallen U.S. Army Pfc. Shawn Hensel. The 20-year-old serviceman received injuries under fire in Iraq Aug. 13 and died the next day. An escorted procession bore the Logansport native back home along SR 25 after he was flown in to Purdue University Airport last Thursday. A similar scene could be found all along the route as area volunteer fire departments and rural residents heard of the procession. Pfc. Hensel's parents said they were thankful for the unexpected support. Sgt. Woodward of the U.S. Army asked town leaders "to convey their (Hensel's parents) humble appreciation for Delphi's show of support toward their son. They were taken by surprise and touched deeply," according to a release from Delphi Mayor Lee Hoard.
