Debbie and Tom Weirick recently returned from a trip to California. Debbie is a nurse practitioner at Clarian Arnett Health in Flora, and part of the trip was to attend the eighth annual Women's Health Conference by Symposium Medicus in Yosemite. Two other nurse practitioners accompanied them.

The trip also included a fiveday stay in San Francisco. Former Flora resident Pam Thomson was the Weiricks' personal tour guide. She and Debbie were classmates at Carroll High School. Pam has worked and lived in the San Francisco area for the past 37 years. She and her husband, Tom Edison, live in the Napa Valley.

"She knows the history of San Francisco and showed us so many sights we would have never been able to see," Debbie said.

Some of the places they visited were Alcatraz, China Town, Fisherman's Wharf, Palace of Fine Arts, Japanese Tea Garden, Haight-Ashbury, Archbishop's Mansion, and Lake Sonoma.

They spent one day in Dry Creek, touring all of the wineries. Pam had arranged for personal tours. They had lunch with Pam and her husband on their deck overlooking the vineyards.

After the San Francisco tour, the Weiricks left for the fourday conference (Aug. 1-4). It was held at Tenaya Lodge. They also toured in the Yosemite area, seeing such sights as the Mariposa Groves and the Giant Sequoias.

The Weiricks drove back to San Francisco on Aug. 4 and celebrated their 39th wedding anniversary at a restaurant in Sausalito.

"The view was awesome," Debbie said. "The bay was full of sailboats and kayaks. The lights of both San Francisco and Sausalito reflected off the water - a perfect setting for our anniversary.
