Lambert competes at State Fair

      Loretta Lambert of rural Frankfort participated in the Seyfert's Indiana State Fair Fashion Show held Aug. 11 at the State Fairgrounds in Indianapolis. She participated in the formal dress category. Competition consisted of winners from counties throughout the sate.

      American Red Cross Blood Services of the Indiana-Ohio region hosted an annual meeting and recognition luncheon Aug. 16 at Marriott Hotel in FortWayne. Flora area resident Harry Shaffer Jr. was presented with the Outstanding Blood Donor award for highest donation frequency in fiscal year 2007.

      Debbie and Tom Weirick recently returned from a trip to California. Debbie is a nurse practitioner at Clarian Arnett Health in Flora, and part of the trip was to attend the eighth annual Women's Health Conference by Symposium Medicus in Yosemite. Two other nurse practitioners accompanied them.

Still time to enter IDEM's wetlands photo contest

      Photographers and outdoors enthusiasts have less than a month remaining to create and submit their best Indiana wetlands photos in the Indiana Department of Environmental Management's photo contest. Winning photos will be used for the 2008 Indiana Wetlands Calendar produced later in 2007 by IDEM.

Raised, but not in place
      The 1905 Stearns Bridge has been assembled and lifted with a crane. Sometime in the next couple of weeks, two cranes will place it over the canal behind Pizza King and Dairy Queen in Delphi.

SR 75 is closed through Sept. 6

      The Indiana Department of Transportation (INDOT) announced last Wednesday that it had temporarily closed State Road 75 from Aug. 16 through Sept. 6. During this time, the bridge over Wildcat Creek, 4.5 miles south of State Road 18 will be painted.

Red Cross seeks instructors

      The American Red Cross is seeking individuals to be trained as first aid, CPR and AED instructors. Classes will be Sept. 6, 11, 13, 18 and 20 from 6 to 10 p.m. at the American Red Cross Tippecanoe Chapter. Trainees will be evaluated the first day of the course in CPR, AED and first aid skills.

Food pantry receives donation

      Carroll County Food Pantry in Delphi received $1,200 from Thrivent Financial for Lutherans to buy food for needy residents. Funds were raised by volunteers who used Thrivent's Care Abounds in Communities program during a matching funds drive earlier this year.

ISP issues July statistics

      Indiana State Police at the Lafayette Post have released statistics for July. Troopers issued 839 traffic citations and wrote 569 traffic warnings. Troopers also arrested 13 drunk drivers and made 56 criminal arrests.
