Cavaliers roll over Cougars
By: Mike Hoffman Contributing sportswriter
The Tri-County Cavaliers came to Cougar country ready to play football last Friday night. And they went home with the 33-7 victory, too. Tri- County physically pushed the Cougar defenders backwards most of the night.

Carroll's defensive front line couldn't do much. They were pushed backwards most of the night by the Cavaliers' front line.

There were some young men out there on the field who gave 110%, but some who more or less just went through the motions. These young men need to learn that at Carroll High School, "THE PAW IS THE LAW" and you play Cougar style football, not "kitty cat" style.

The game started with the Cougars kicking off to the Cavaliers. Neither team could generate any offence until the Cavaliers' James Taulman found Matt Illingworth for a 34-yard touchdown for a 7-0 Tri-County lead.

What followed was a lot of sloppy defensive play by the Cougars. Carroll's quarterback Riley Eller was intercepted, however, the Cavaliers gave it right back on a fumble. The first quarter came to an end with the score 7-0 Tri-County.

The Cavaliers scored again at 8:19 when Taulman ran in from the six. He also kicked the extra point for a 14-0 Tri- County advantage. The Cavaliers went up 21-0 on J.R. Fout's 7-yard TD run. The kick was good.

The Cougars had dug themselves a big hole, and the coaching staff had to find something to put a charge into the Cougars. The second half started with the Cougars on the receiving end. They put together a 7-play, 73-yard drive with Eller taking it in from the 5-yard line. The kick was good for 21-7 at 9:32 (3).

The Cavaliers came right back though on a 12-yard touchdown run by Taulman at 2:07 in the third. The kick was no good.

In the fourth quarter, the Cavaliers scored again on a Fout 7-yard run. The 2-point conversion failed, but Tri- County claimed the 33-7 win.

Coach Rick George's Cougars are readying this week for a match-up with county rival Delphi. At stake is the Bacon Bowl Skillet which is currently in Delphi's possession. Both teams lost their season opener. Kick-off is 7:30 at CHS field.
