Tuesday deadline for state's Do Not Call list

August 21 is the next deadline to register for the state's Do Not Call list. Phone numbers placed on the list by midnight EDT Tuesday will begin receiving benefits of the law starting Oct. 1.

There are currently more than 1.8 million phone numbers registered on the Do Not Call list.

Reregistering is not necessary if you retain the same phone number. The next registration deadline is Nov. 20.

The attorney general's office has entered into agreements with 211 companies for alleged violations of the law. To date, more than $1.2 million has been assessed in penalties, violations, and a court judgment.

Registration is free and the state will not ask any personal financial information.
