Local members attend National DUVCW Convention

The 117th National Convention of the Daughters of Union Veterans of the CivilWar (1861- 1865) was heldAug. 8-12 in St. Louis,Mo.

Esther M. Cook of Flora, past department president for Indiana, attended along with her granddaughters, Tia and Melanie Cook, and another PDP, Joan Davis. The young girls were color bearers for the grand opening.

At the All States Fun Night, the program topics were Will Rogers, Betsy Ross, and the Liberty Bell.

The skit trophy was won by the Missouri group. They walked the hills until they came to a cabin with a pot of hot soup on the stove. The "soup" turned out to be the cabin owner's mop water.

At the Memory Banquet, the Company Singers from Huntington, Ind., sang Civil War songs.Ahusband and wife team gave a skit about Mary Todd Lincoln and Abraham Lincoln sitting inWashington,D.C., trying to copywith the death of two of their four boys.

The group took a tour of Civil War sites in the St. Louis area. They returned for an Allied Orders Banquet, with all of the groups attending that are related to the soldiers who served in the GrandArmy of the Republic.

The duvs (age 8-18) told about people who lived during the CivilWar at the Granddaughters Breakfast.

A total of 114 attended from all of the states.
