By Kevin Schnepp Staff writer

Many small communities in the United States look similar on the surface. But those who live in such places know the integrity of the city's people helps define its worthiness as a place to call home.

Throughout history, Carroll County has been blessed with innumerable residents who have helped keep the county's heritage alive. Such admiration of the area and its people continues today.

Many examples can be given, but one that takes the forefront this week is the 152nd annual Carroll County Old Settlers' Festival, Meeting and Rendezvous.

Festival sponsors, Delphi Chamber of Commerce, Carroll County Historical Museum, and Delphi Preservation Society have organized a full slate of activities certain to entertain visitors while helping modern-day citizens relate to the city's history.

The four-day festival will kick off at 5 p.m. today, Wednesday, featuring $1 carnival rides, a booth fair, an art show, clowns, museum activities and outdoor musical entertainment.

Many of the same past-times will be offered each day of the festival, but variety will come in the form of different performers, meals and activities sure to keep entertainment value elevated.

Delphi United Methodist Church tent will be the center of community meals Thursday through Saturday. A fish fry, sponsored by Delphi Chamber of Commerce, will be served there Thursday from 4:30 to 7:30 p.m. The church will host its own chicken barbecue on Friday during the same times. Knights of Columbus will serve breakfast Saturday morning from 7 to 10:30. Prevent Child Abuse Carroll County will serve barbecue ribs Saturday from 4:30 to 7:30.

Music will eminate from the courthouse lawn each night. On Wednesday, Senior Class and 3-Day Binge will perform.

Tonsil Klackers Comedy Quartet and Uncle Buck's Mojo Box will entertain Thursday.

See Frank Sinatra portrayed by Mike Horney Friday night, followed by a performance by Twin Lakes Gymanstics, a Canine Cavalcade preview and music group Black Creek Rising.

Greg Allen will provide karaoke music Saturday afternoon, then to wind down the festival Delphi Community Band, Homemakers Chorus and Denim and Lace will delight onlookers.

Other festivities include opera house tours and displays each day, an opera house-era fashion show on Friday, and historic tours and a Freedom Run Motorcyle Ride on Saturday.

The chamber will offer a drawing for a $25 Shop Delphi Gift Certificate on Saturday near the antique mall. Entries are free for answering some survey questions.
