Library Flora-Monroe Township The Flora Library, the Baseball Hall of Fame and the American Library Association want kids and young adults to batter up for a new literacy program called, "Step Up to the Plate at your library." The program brings together two of America's favorite pastimes - baseball and libraries - to promote reading. Kids and young adults between the ages of 9 and 18 are invited to grab a baseball book and write a short essay on a character that inspired them. All participants have a chance to win a trip to the Baseball Hall of Fame in Cooperstown, N.Y. Entries can be submitted by mail or online. All entries must be submitted by Sept. 1, 2007. Artwork will be saved through Aug.11. Pick up at the main desk or call the library for information, 967-3912. Storytime kicks off the fall season with a back-to-school theme. Preschool, kindergarten and more are all starting back up. We'll have stories all about how fun learning can be with friends! Storytime is Tuesday mornings at 10 a.m. Remember, stories can be heard anytime day or night by calling the library's Dial-a-Story. Currently playing is "How the Rhinoceros Got His Skin." On Friday the new story will be "The Lion and the Mouse." Call Diala Story, 967-3814. Frankfort The Friends of the Frankfort Library sponsor a Book Discussion Group that meets the last Saturday of each month at 9:30 a.m. in Harry's Coffee Bar on the library's lower level. On Aug. 25, the topic will be March by Geraldine Brooks. The discussions are free and open to the public. Registration can be made at the library circulation desk or by calling 765- 654-8746. The Friends group will sponsor musical performances in Harry's Coffee Bar on Aug.30 at 7 p.m., The guitar duo known as Guitars For Lunch featuring Mike Flowers and Gary Bailey. Flowers and Bailey have performed in Harry's on several occasions and play a variety of music including bluegrass, folk rock and original compositions. The public is invited. |
