Grand Effect Productions will open its 2007-2008 season with "ALICE IN WONDERLAND," adapted for stage by Paul Allen. The family musical will be presented at the Wells Community Cultural Center, 863 North Street, Lafayette, on Aug. 23 through 26, each evening at 7:30. An afternoon matinee performance will be given on Aug. 25 at 3:30. Tickets sold prior to Aug. 22 will be discounted. Area IV Agency on Aging and Community Action Programs, Arnett HMO/Gold, Hippensteel Funeral Service and Crematory and Rosewalk Commons will present the comedy "Yours, Mine & Ours" on WACKY WEDNESDAY SENIOR MOVIE DAYAug. 8. The Indiana Nonprofit Resource Network, in coordination with Greater Lafayette Volunteer Bureau, will present a VOLUNTEER MANAGEMENT WORKSHOP Aug. 9 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the Mental Health America community room, 914 South St. in Lafayette. Ashley Brazelton of GLVB and Jillian Miller of INRN will lead discussions regarding strategies for recruitment, orientation, training, retention and recognition. Focus will be placed on how to match the right volunteer to the right job by utilizing descriptions which feature benefits to both the organization and the volunteer. Indiana Youth Institute will offer WORKING WITH KIDS WITH DISRUPTIVE BEHAVIORS Aug. 28 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Subaru of Indiana Automotive Inc., 5500 SR38E. in Lafayette. The workshop suggests a new approach to dealing with children who lack critical thinking skills and have trouble managing their moods and behaviors. Youth workers will learn why these children do what they do, the limited effectiveness of punishment and rewards, and how to use one's self to influence behavior. Wabash Weavers Guild will hold A TASTE OF MIDWEST WEAVERS CONFERENCE AND DOUBLEWEAVE Aug. 17 from 9:30 a.m. to noon in the north meeting room at the Tippecanoe Arts Federation. Wednesdays in the Wild will host EXPLORATION OF AN OAK WOODLAND Aug. 15 from 1 to 3 p.m. at Black Rock Barrens. NICHES Land Trust Executive Director Gus Nyberg will talk about the plants and animals that call the endangered Indiana landscape their home and how the land trust is managing the property. Wednesdays in the Wild will sponsor an outdoor program SHRUBS AND WOODY VINES Aug. 8 from 1 to 3 p.m. at Purdue Wildlife Area in West Lafayette. Purdue Dendrologist Sally Weeks will help identify woody plants and teach about the botanical characteristics. Weeks co-authored "Native Trees of the Midwest" and is currently working on a shrub identification book. To get to the wildlife area, take SR26 west 1/4 mile past CR750W. Turn north into a gravel drive marked by a small black and white sign. Park at the end of the lane.
