Relay for Life raises $31,878

Carroll County Relay for Life raised $31,878.34 for the American Cancer Society.

There were 19 teams, 60 cancer survivors, and 300 total participants in this year's event.

It was held last Friday and Saturday at the Carroll Jr.-Sr. High School track.

The three teams that raised the most money were First Financial Bank, $4,744.75; Dick Krieg Motors, $4,620.28; and St. Elizabeth Healthcare, $4,506.04.

Other team awards were: Best Campsite, St. Elizabeth Healthcare; Honorable Mention, Team Exterminators; Most Team Spirit, Friends for a Cure; and Rookie Team of the Year, Flora Volunteer Fire Department.

Bob Mills as "Miss Demeanor" was the winner in the "Miss"ter Relay contest for raising more money than any other contestant. A total of $1,800 was collected in the "Miss"ter Relay contest.

Friends for a Cure One of the 19 teams at the Carroll County Relay for Life was "Friends for a Cure." The team won the award for Most Team Spirit. The group of 25 includes five cancer survivors. They came together as a team from Flora, Delphi, Brookston, Buck Creek, and Lafayette. There were people on the track at all times Friday night and Saturday morning. Jerry D. Reinke recorded the Most Laps Walked/Run. His total was 68 laps.

This was the sixth year for the Carroll County Relay for Life. This year's theme was "Racing Toward a Cure."

Committee members were Shawna Dreadfulwater and Tina Miller, co-chairmen; Lisa Morrow, Karen Guckien, Tammy Shirels, Ramona Ogle, Heather Dunk, Patty Buck, Connie Clymer, Stacy Brooks, Pam Miller, and Sandy Chapin from the American Cancer Society office in Kokomo.
