Women volunteers to build Habitat home Habitat for Humanity of Lafayette, the YWCA Women's Cancer Program and an all-women volunteer crew are partnering to build a home during this year's Women's Breast Cancer Awareness Build 2007. The public is invited to the Women's Breast Cancer Awareness Build groundbreaking event at 8 a.m. on Saturday at 133 Wise Drive in Bristol Park, Lafayette. The Women Build program brings women from all walks of life together to learn construction skills and use those skills to be part of the solution to poverty housing. This Women Build project will add to the more than 800 Habitat houses built by women crews throughout the country. Mitzi Barnett, the Women Build spokesperson, will help kick-off the build. Additionally, the YWCA Women's Cancer Program will share about breast cancer awareness. The future Habitat homeowner, the Michelle Wagner family, will also be present. The purpose of this partnership between Habitat of Lafayette and the YWCA is not only to build a house in partnership with a qualified Habitat homeowner, but to raise awareness about breast cancer issues and services offered in the community. The house is slated to be dedicated in early October during Breast Cancer Awareness Month. |
