Planting away from corners prevents accidents Farmers and homeowners are being asked to reconsider planting tall plants that may interfere with sight distance. The Indiana Department of Transportation (INDOT) La- Porte District says it's important for the sight distance at intersections and corners to be clear so drivers can see oncoming traffic and adjust accordingly. LaPorte District Highway Management Director Tom Konieczny said this has always been a problem, but now that population has increased, people are driving faster and more corn is being planted, sight distance issues are becoming more prevalent. "Please consider your fellow Hoosiers in planting your corners," Konieczny requested of farmers. INDOT crews across the state must deal with trimming back trees and shrubs planted by homeowners that make intersections, curves and corners dangerous. INDOT requests all Hoosiers consider safety and sight distance when planting near roadways. |
