Camden Fall Festival brings four contests to residents
Comet staff report

Beauty in youth and the glamorous golden years will both shine during pageants and contests at the Camden Fall Festival in August. The town has hosted contests for younger generations for years, and this time has added one for the older women of the community.

Camden's Golden Star, a penny war contest for female entrants ages 60 and older, will be held Aug. 6 to 24. A photo of each entrant will be placed on a canister at Dr. Tom Anderson's office. The lady with the most pennies wins the title for 2007.

Any money other than pennies in a Golden Star canister will be subtracted from the entrant's total. Winner will receive a crown, sash and award. First and second places receive prizes.

Perennial contest favorites return this year as well.

Camden's Little Rising Star contest is open to babies newborn to 24 months old. Each child's picture will be affixed to a coin canister and placed in Camden Grocery from Aug. 6 to 24.

The baby with the most money at the end of the contest will be named winner and will receive a savings bond worth double the amount in the winning canister, a tee-shirt and an award. First and second place awards will be given. All babies will receive a gift basket.

Miss Camden and Camden's Little Miss and Mister contests will be held Aug. 25 at 4 p.m., during the festival. Practice and judges' interviews will be at 9 a.m.

An entry fee is required for both contests. Little Miss and Mister contestants should wear dressy, church-type outfits. Miss Camden entrants must don casual and formal attire.

Winners will receive a crown, sash, trophy and awards, and will represent Camden at various functions for a year. All entrants will receive gift baskets.

Applications are available at Camden's town hall. Contest entrants must reside within the former Camden elementary school district. Call (574) 686-2331 for information.
